The award case for Illinois State sophomore linebacker Boomer Grigsby continues to fill as the Canton, Ill., native was named Dopke.coms Division I-AA Performer of the Year, Wednesday.

In addition to the national honor, Grigsby was also tabbed as Dopke.coms Gateway Football Conference Performer of the Year. Grigsby is also a finalist for The Sports Network Buck Buchanan Award, which is given the nations top defensive player. He was also named the 2002 Gateway Defensive Player of the Year award the first sophomore to claim the honor in league history.
Grigsby finished the season with a Redbird record 179 tackles, which was tops in I-AA. He also posted 108 solo stops, breaking the NCAA record for all levels, along with 16 tackles for loss, four sacks, two fumble recoveries and two fumbles forced.
