Redbird Swimmers Finish Third at Ed Kennedy Invitational

The Illinois State swimming and diving team headed south over the holiday break and picked up a third place finish at the Ed Kennedy Invitational in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Tuesday. Freshman Monique Witkowski was one of the highlights for the Redbirds in the meet finishing fifth overall in the 50-meter free with a time of 29:08 and anchoring the 200 free relay, which finished third. We have been off for awhile, so this is a great start for us for the next part of the season, said Illinois State coach Steve Paska. Monique had a solid meet and I was also happy with how the girls responded. Simone Leger, Laine Benthall and Angie Rawlins also swam well for us today. Twelve different schools from all three NCAA Divisions (I, II, III) competed in the Invitational and scoring was broken up by division. Washington, Delaware and Wisconsin-Milwaukee were the other Division I schools participating in the meet with Illinois State. Washington won the meet, followed by Delaware in second place. The Redbirds continue their season on January 3, 2003, with another Sunshine State meet at the Florida Atlantic Invitational. The meet is slated to begin at 9:30 a.m.
