Every athlete on the Illinois State swimming team set personal bests on the first night of competition at the Akron Invitational at Akron, Ohio.
The Redbirds entered two teams in the 800 free relay with the team composed of Katie Finan, Heather Norris, Monique Witkowski and Nicole DuCharme placing fifth with a time of 7:52.12. The team of Julie Cocks, Dede Woytowych, Laine Benthall and Dana Rosinski finished 13th among the field of 19 other teams.
Norris and Finan also swam the 1650 free with Norris placing fourth in a season best time of 17:45.65 and Finan capturing eighth place in a time of 17:55.62.

Steve Paska was pleased with his team.
This is a great way to start out this meet, said Paska. We had our fastest times of the season.
The 800 free relay and the 1650 free were the only two events Illinois State competed in, with the remainder of the events taking place on Friday and Saturday.
