Redbird Swimming and Diving Hosts Bradley

For the first time since November 10, the Illinois State swimming and diving team returns to Horton Pool, hosting Bradley in a Missouri Valley Conference meet beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday. Unlike other meets, the events of this competition will be shorter distances with the longest event being the 500 free. This meet is going to be sprint oriented to get both teams prepared for the Valley meet, Redbird coach Steve Paska said. Were going to swim the 200 and 500 free to keep the distance swimmers fresh. Im looking forward to see how our sprinting has improved over the last few meets. It will be interesting to see how the girls prepare for a meet like this. Last weekend, Illinois State took third in the Bill Ritter Invitational sparked by Diana Cirsteas first-place finish in the 200 butterfly and a first-place finish by Heather Norris in the 1,650 free. Krystal Featherston led the divers, finishing third in the three-meter competition. The Braves host Western Illinois Friday night before traveling to Normal for the final time as the swimming and diving programs will be discontinued after the end of the 2002 season.
