University of Illinois-Chicago Next Up For Redbird Gymnasts

The nationally-ranked (No. 41) Illinois State gymnastics team is ready to compete against its biggest in-state rival, No. 43 University of Illinois-Chicago, Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Horton Field House. The Redbirds are coming off an exciting weekend victory over the United States Air Force, 193.975 - 193.500. Last season, the Flames beat the Redbirds in three out of four competitions, but the Redbirds are looking forward to the competitive match-up. Head coach Beth Larson and the Redbirds plan to build off Friday nights season-high score against Air Force to propel them to victory over the Flames. UIC is our biggest rival, and we are excited about this meet, said Larson. We had a great meet this weekend, and we will use that added confidence to build on. I think the team will be ready to go out and post another big score. Junior Denise Houda, who had a career-high all-around score (39.275) against Air Force, is looking to help the Redbirds improve their record with a victory over UIC. The main goal is to go into the competition knowing exactly what it is we want to do, and stick to that, said Houda. The Redbirds are undefeated at home and hold an overall season record of 6-2.
