The Illinois State football team added depth to its receiving corps as head coach Denver Johnson announced the signing of LaMonte Jones, from Fresno, Calif.
Jones, who is 5-foot-11, 180-pounds, will have two years of eligibility remaining after playing two seasons at Fresno City College. He helped lead the Rams to a 10-1 mark by leading the team in receiving with 35 catches for 654 yards and six touchdowns. Jones averaged 18.7 yards per catch and hauled in a 60-yard reception for his longest of the season. For his efforts, Jones received first team All-Valley Conference honors.
LaMonte is a good player who can go out and get the ball, Johnson said. The nice thing about LaMonte is not only can he catch, but he can make things happen after the catch. He has good speed and is very elusive. He will be a nice compliment to our other receivers.
As a freshman, Jones posted 10 catches for 200 yards on a team that finished 9-2. Prior to junior college, Jones played his prep career at Fresno High School.
