Illinois State sophomore Dirk Williams returned to practice for some light shooting Wednesday night for the first time since breaking the first cuneiform bone in his left foot 27 days ago.
He will be re-evaluated by athletic trainer
John Munn tomorrow morning. If Williams doesnt feel any discomfort or pain, he will take a more active role in Thursdays practice.
Head coach Tom Richardson doesnt want to rush Williams back too quick.
It was good to see Dirk back on the court, but his status for the Valley Tournament is still up in the air, Richardson said. I dont want to put him into a game situation until Im sure that he can help us without re-injuring himself.
Williams, a native of Pekin, Ill., played in the first 21 games for the Birds with eight starts. He was averaging 4.3 points and 3.0 rebounds per game, while logging 15.2 minutes per contest.
