Womens Tennis Dominates Doubles, But Falls to DePaul in Singles

Illinois States Alesia Mikalayeva and Liina Suurvarik were both undefeated in the meet against DePaul, but ISU was unable to put away DePaul, losing by only one point. ISU had a strong showing in doubles, winning two of the three matches to gain the doubles point. The #1 doubles team of Mikalayeva and Suurvarik put away DePauls Marina Parashkeboza and Sylvia Kelemen, while the #3 team of Laura Gravino and Shelby Lipson defeated DePauls Stephanie Matko and Megan Stewart. Not helping the Redbirds was the fact that Alana Hoffman, #3 in the lineup, was out sick for the day. Elizabeth Bingier took her place on the roster, but could not come up with a win. It was disappointing, said Coach Hoover. We just couldnt hang with them, and our seasons not going to get any easier. ISU is now 1-3 for the season. The next meet for the Redbirds will be their first home meet against Eastern Michigan next Saturday, February 9th.
