Whisman and Featherston Dive Into Regional Competition

Illinois State freshmen divers Terra Whisman and Krystal Featherston placed 40th and 42nd, respectively, on the one-meter board at the 2002 NCAA Region C Diving Zone Meet hosted by Purdue, Friday. Whisman collected a total of 173.00 points while Featherston tallied 163.40 on six dives off the one-meter board. Purdues Kara Hajek-Gustafson won the event with a score of 291.65. While the Illinois State divers did not place as high as Redbird diving coach Laura Segerlin anticipated, Segerlin views Fridays competition as a learning experience for the young divers. They got an eye-opener today, and that will help them over the next three years preparing for this meet, Segerlin said. Whisman and Featherston jump right back into competition Saturday with three-meter competition. They looked good in warm-ups on the three-meter today, Segerlin added. As long as they keep their mental set, they should do well. Three-meter competition begins at 8 a.m. CST at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center in West Lafayette, Ind.
