The Illinois State womens golf team will head back to Florida to play in the Peggy Kirk Bell Invite on March 10-12. Rollins College is hosting the tournament at the Tuscawilla Country Club. The course is a par 72 and measures 6,031yards.
The Redbirds will have an opportunity to redeem themselves against the two top scoring teams from last weeks Lady Moc Classic. North Carolina and Miami highlight the Peggy Kirk Bell Invite field. In addition, Illinois will compete against Missouri Valley Conference Southern Illiois for the first time.
With playing Northern Iowa and Bradley last week and seeing Southern this week, we will have a better idea of what we are up against in April, said coach
Ray Kralis. Our first match we played some good golf, but I am looking forward to seeing how well the golf team does this weekend.
Illinois State should do well this Sunday. It will be the second time that the Redbirds will play in this two day tournament. Last year, the team shot a 350, putting them in 13th place. Jill Rachford, Sara Prack, and Albiona Zhubi will be the returning players in this tournament. Ashlee Johnson and Katie Laehn will see the course for the first time.
After the tournament the team will stay a few more days and play some practice rounds at the World Woods Golf Course.
I think giving the golf team a few extra days to practice and refine skills we have been working on over the winter will benefit us just as well as tournament play, said Kralis.
Both the players and the coach are hoping that spring break will bring warm weather here to Illinois so they can start practicing on their own turf.
