Illinois States Baboucarr Bojang, who was one of the top newcomers in the Missouri Valley Conference last season, had is right wrist placed in a cast Friday to help heal a severe sprain that nagged him for the last half of the season.
Bojang initially suffered the injury in the second half of the game at Southwest Missouri State on February 2, but re-aggravated the injury numerous times during the remainder of the season, including in the conference tournament semifinal against Creighton.
Officially, Bojang has been diagnosed with scapholunate instability. His wrist was placed in a cast to provide the quickest method to full recovery. Bojang will have the cast on for six weeks, before starting a four-week session of range of motion strength rehabilitation.
This is another unfortunate injury for our team, but we need to make sure that Boo is taken care of and that hes ready for next season, head coach Tom Richardson said. The worse thing about the injury is that Boo is going to miss some off-season workouts, but on the positive side we are expecting a full recovery.
As Bojang is fitted for a cast, teammate Dirk Williams will be leaving his on Monday and will be graduating to a boot. Williams, who broke the first cuneiform bone in his left foot during a mid-season practice, returned to a cast after the conference tournament and will wear a boot for a couple of weeks before starting his rehab work.
