After leading the Illinois State mens tennis team to victories over St. Louis and Creighton, junior Ciaran Foley has been named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week. Foley went undefeated at No. 3 singles and No. 3 doubles in the Redbirds victories over the Billikens and Bluejays.
At No. 3 singles, Foley defeated Tom de Larzar of St. Louis 7-6, 6-2, and Pierre-Marc Villeneuve of Creighton 4-6, 6-4 (12-10). With the victories, he improved his spring record to 10-8, and is 14-12 overall. Currently, he is on a three match winning streak that began with a win over No. 44 Florida Atlantics Andre Buzzoni.
At No. 3 doubles, Foley and teammate Marek Blaskovic defeated Hoosien/Kwong of St. Louis 8-0, and Gonzalez/McCarthy of Creighton 8-2. With the wins, Foley improved his overall doubles record to 17-9.
Foley and the Redbirds will return to action on Friday, April 5 when they host Northern Iowa in Normal, Illinois.
