Joyce Kleinheinz has signed a national letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic careers at Illinois State as a member of the Redbird soccer team.
Kleinheinz, a native of Libertyville, Ill., was a special mention all-state during her junior season at Libertyville High School. Kleinheinz tallied 14 goals and seven assists for the 2001 IHSA state champion Wildcats, who finished the season with a 25-3-1 mark.
Kleinheinz also runs cross country and plays basketball at Libertyville. She is a member of the Eclipse Select soccer club, the same club team Redbird midfielder Tiffany DeClark played for.
Current Redbird goalkeeper Allison Farrington also attended Libertyville, as did former Redbirds Lindsay Freed and Sarah Moss.
Joyce is very athletic and will be able to play at midfield or forward, Redbird head coach Pete Kowall said. She primarily plays midfield for Libertyville. Every one of the kids from Libertyville has been an asset to us so we have a very good connection there.
