Hoover Honored With Coach of the Year

Illinois State womens tennis head coach Chris Hoover was named 2001 Midwest Division Coach of the Year by the United States Professional Tennis Association. Coach Hoover was chosen as the recipient of this award based on his teams accomplishments and win/loss record as well as his contributions to the USPTA in the fifteen years that he has been a member. Hoover, though not present, was honored at the USPTA Midwest Division Convention in Columbus, Ohio March 2-4, and greatly appreciates the recognition. What makes this award so nice, said Hoover, is that it comes from your peers. Not only other coaches, but instuctors and professionals throughout the midwest region make the decision. The recognition was certainly deserved. Last year, under Hoovers guidance, the Illinois State womens tennis team earned a 21-6 record, and was undefeated (9-0) in the Missouri Valley Conference. The team was ranked No. 58 nationally and No. 10 in the Midwest Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The Redirds also captured 7 of 10 titles at the Missouri Valley Conference Individuals Tournament. Hoover has also been named Coach of the Year in the Missouri Valley Conference for the past two consecutive years. Its appreciated that we were recognized for how far weve been able to take the program, said Hoover. Its nice to be given that credit. Hoovers contributions to the sport of tennis do not end with the regular season. Outside the regular season, Hoover conducts International Clinics for the Professional Coaches Association, assists with the Junior Development Program at Evergreen Racquet Club, directs the Illinois State Redbird tennis camps, is a member of the Wilson Advisory Staff, and is a United States Tennis Association verifier.
