Spring Soccer Wraps Up at Illini Spring Invitational

Coming off of a second-place finish at the Illinois State Invitational last weekend, the Redbird soccer team wraps up its spring season Saturday with two games at the Illini Spring Invitational in Champaign. In the first of two games, the Birds take on Indiana at 8 a.m. on Field 1. Illinois State then faces Marquette on the main field at 4 p.m. Last weekend, the Redbirds beat Valparaiso, 6-0, to face St. Louis in the championship game. The Billikens proved too strong for the injury-plagued Birds as SLU came away with a 3-0 win. Both teams will be as good as St. Louis or better, so it will definitely be challenging, head coach Pete Kowall said. It will be a challenge, but it will be nice to play against someone else. While defender Robyn Brady is expected to be back on the field, the Birds will once again have a depleted lineup with Katie Long, Heather Forsyth, Lynley Hilligoss and Lauren Kahlenbeck sidelined with injuries. Junior Chrystal Johnston and midfielder Diana Puckett are questionable. The tournament features Illinois State, Indiana, Purdue, Eastern Illinois, Marquette, Northwestern, Iowa, Iowa ODP, Wisconsin-Milwaukee and host Illinois.
