Zhubi And Johnson Score In The Top Twenty After First Day

Sophmore Albiona Zhubi and freshman Ashlee Johnson of the Illinois State womens golf team had a strong start at the Illini Tournament. Zhubi and Johnson scored in the top twenty. Zhubi shot a tournament team low of 79 tying for 10th and Johnson shot an 80 tying for 17th. Redbirds that aided the team to a fifth place finish after the first day are Katie Laehn who shot an 82 tying for 29th, followed by Jill Rachford with a score of 83 tying for 35th, and Sara Prack with a score of 87 tying for 58th. The Redbirds had a solid day, everyone held their own, said coach Ray Kralis. We are anxious to play tomorrow and move up in our ranking. Southern Illinois is in first place with a score of 306 with host Illinois close behind (309). Arkansas is in third with a score of 314. Bradley is in fourth (322) with Illinois State (324) two strokes away from challenging them for their spot. The pressure is definetly intense within the competition. The Redbirds tee off on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at the Stone Creek Golf Course. ####
