After two rounds of play the Illinois State mens golf team sits in sixth place wth a score of 589 (294-295) at the ASU Indian Classic in Jonesboro, Ark.
The sophomore pair of Brian Anderson and Walter Brown lead the way for the Birds with Anderson (72-72=144) placed in a tie for fifth, and Brown (74-72=146) in a tie for 12th. Brown, competing for just the second time this season sits a mere two strokes behind Anderson in the individual standings.
Senior Nic Baker (75-74=149) placed in a tie for 25th after the first two rounds of play, followed by senior B.J. Brown (73-77=150) in a tie for 29th, and freshman Kyle Vasel (83-81=164) who rounds out the ISU team in a tie for 70th.
Sophomore Denny Bull, making his first tournament appearance of the season, shot a 156 (74-82) on the day to place in a tie for 55th in the individual standings.
Gareth Maybin of the University of South Alabama sits in first place after shooting a 68 in round one, and a 70 in round two. He edged out Jason Jackson (70-69) of tournament host Arkansas State University by one stroke to hold the lead for the day.
In the overall tournament standings the University of South Alabama leads with a score of 573 (288-285) on the day. Arkansas State University is currently in second with 580 (290-290) strokes, followed by the University of South Florida in third with 581 (293-288), University of Missouri in fourth with 586 (291-295), and the University of North Texas with 588 (291-297) to round out the top five.
Golf action resumes at RidgePointe Country Club Tuesday when the teams play their final 18 hole round to wrap up the tournament and decide the winner.
