'Birds Edge Wichita State, 2-1

Redbird ace Audra Rast redeemed herself against Wichita State on Sunday hurling a one-hitter for a 2-1 win, after falling to the Shockers in the first game of Saturdays doubleheader snapping her 14 game win streak. Illinois State had only four hits off of Wichita State pitchers Ashley Patrick and Lindsay Craig, but it was enough to grab the two runs they needed to slip by the Shockers. Rast did some damage from the mound striking out seven batters and walking only two. The junior improved her record to 18-3 overall, 11-1 in the MVC. Senior Cutie Taylor had another good day at the plate hitting a shot up the middle for an RBI, her 33rd on the year. Taylor still leads the Valley in home runs with 10. Corey Harris tagged a hit earning an RBI as well. Freshmen Dominique Borba and Kate Stake had great effort in the field, combining for four assists and two putouts from shortstop and second base. The Birds will continue conference action this week meeting up with Indiana State on Tuesday for a doubleheader at the Redbird Softball Complex. The games are set to start at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. and will be the final home games for Illinois State.
