Redbirds Split With Wichita State In Doubleheader

Illinois State pitcher Corey Harris threw a two-hitter for the defeat over Wichita State, 3-0 in game two of the Redbirds doubleheader on Saturday at the Redbird Softball Complex. Harris, now 6-9 has thrown her second consecutive win after defeating Northern Illinois on Wednesday. The junior hurled two strikeouts in the victory. The Redbirds compiled for six hits and had only one error game two. In game one, Audra Rast could not do enough to pull off her 15th straight victory striking out five batters and giving up only three hits falling to the Shockers 3-2. Wichita State took the lead in the top of the seventh inning when Robin Sando hit a two run homer giving the Shockers the lead 2-1. Kate Stake led all batters with a double, tying Abbie Scott with nine for the team lead, and had a combined eight putouts at second base in the two games. Illinois State is now 22-14 overall, 13-3 in conference action. The Birds will face-off against the Shockers in the final game of the series on Sunday, April, 21 at noon at the Redbird Softball Complex. The seniors will be recognized before the game at 11:50 for their final regular-season contest on their home field.
