Redbirds Meet With Sycamores For Second Time

On April 3, the Illinois State softball team traveled to Terre Haute for a doubleheader against Indiana State, but due to inclement weather only one game was played in which the Redbirds came out on top 8-1. Now the Redbirds are scheduled to face the Sycamores once again in conference action on Tuesday. The Birds, now 24-14 overall, 15-3 in the MVC, will meet up with Indiana State for a doubleheader at the Redbird Softball Complex on Tuesday, April 23, starting at 4 p.m. Last season, Illinois State swept the Sycamores in two games, 1-0, 4-3. The Redbirds under head coach Melinda Fischer have played Indiana State 40 times since 1986 holding a 32-8 advantage. Indiana State is curently 12-31 overall, 2-17 in the Valley, sitting 10th in the conference. After a successful week, taking two from Northern Illinois, 4-0, 3-2, and two of three from Wichita State, 1-2, 3-0, 2-1, the Birds still sit at the top of the Valley. Pitching standout Audra Rast will look to pick up her 13th conference win and Valley home run leader Cutie Taylor continues to chase the Illinois State single-season home run record after spanking two out of the park against Northern Illinois last Wednesday. Taylor has recorded 10 thus far, three behind the record set at 13 in 1999. The doubleheader will be the Redbirds final conference match-up on their home turf until the Conference championships held at the Redbird Softball Complex..
