Ashlee Johnson, a freshmen on the Illinois State womens golf team, was named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week after placing 35th in the Lady Moc Classic on March 3.
Johnson, a native of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisc., has since moved her way up the ranks. She stepped up to tie teammate senior Jill Rachford for the 24th spot at the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational on March 11-12.
Johnson and Rachford have shot within five strokes of each other the whole season. There is a friendly rivalry among the two.
I think that it is good that Johnson, a freshmen is challenging a senior, it pushes all of us to play better, said Rachford. Johnson is a good golfer that has great potential.
Johnson is a golfer that fans will be watching for the next few years.
