Junior Abbie Scott was named Valley/Prairie Farms Scholar-Athlete of the Week after improving her batting average 56 points hitting a .421 in Redbird wins over No. 19 Iowa, 5-1, and Southern Illinois, 10-2, 5-3.
A native of Macomb, Ill., Scott currently carries a 3.96 cumulative grade-point average in psychology. The righty occupies right field for the Birds and is hitting number two in the Redbird lineup batting a .257 on the season.
Against 19th-ranked Iowa, Scott hit 2-for-6 against All-American Kristy Hanks in the doubleheader played in Iowa City on March 27, as the Redbirds split with the Hawkeyes, 5-1, 0-4. In the three-game series against Southern Illinois, Scott hit .462 (6-for-13), including her second home run of the year, her team-leading fifth double of the year, three runs and two RBI.
Scott and the Redbirds host Drake in Missouri Valley Conference action this weekend, in a three-game series against the Bulldogs at the Redbird Softball Complex. The first pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled to cross the plate at noon on Saturday.
