The Illinois State mens golf team currently sits in 5th place after their first two rounds of tournament play at the Branson Creek Invitational in Hollister, Mo.
Senior Nic Baker leads the Redbirds with round scores of 75 and a personal season best 67, placing him in a tie for eighth place. Sophomore Brian Anderson and freshman Kyle Vasel follow Baker in the ISU standings in a tie for 20th. Anderson shot a 75 in round one, followed by a 72 in round two. Vasel earned his placement shooting a 78 and a 69 respectively.
Senior B.J. Brown finished the day one stroke behind teammates Anderson and Vasel after finishing with scores of 75 and 73, placing him in a tie for 24th. Sophomore Dustin Edwards rounded out the ISU golfers shooting a 79 in round one, followed by a solid 71 in his season debut.
Jeff Lyons of Iowa State currently holds first place after shooting a 69 in round one, and a 66 in round two. The closest challenger, Jeff Allen of tournament host Southwest Missouri State, sits five strokes behind with scores of 73 and 67.
In the overall tournament standings Iowa State University leads with a score of 563 on the day. The University of Nebraska is currently in second with 571 strokes, follwed by host Southwest Missouri State and Kansas State tied for third with a score of 576.
Golf action resumes at Branson Creek tomorrow when the teams play their final 18 holes to wrap up the tournament and decide the winner.
