Seated at the top of the conference, the Illinois State softball team will take a break from the Valley schedule to face-off with the No. 16 DePaul Blue Demons in a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. respectively at the Redbird Softball Complex.
When the two teams met last season, the Birds dropped both games at DePaul, 4-0, 3-0. The games tomorrow will mark the 21st meeting under head coach
Melinda Fischer, who has a 10-11 overall record against the Blue Demons.
After a successful weekend sweeping Drake, 8-0, 10-2 and 11-1, the Redbirds improved their record to 17-11 overall, 11-1 in Valley action preparing them for the upcoming game against the 16th-ranked Blue Demons.
The match up will mark the fifth meeting against a ranked opponent for the Birds this season, after facing off against, No. 19 Iowa, No. 6 Arizona State, No. 21 Texas A&M and No. 25 (at the time) Notre Dame earlier this season grabbing defeats over Iowa, 6-4, 5-1 and Arizona State, 3-0.
