Senior Nic Baker shot a three round score of 215 (75-67-73) to lead the Redbirds to third place at the Branson Creek Invitational in Hollister, Mo. Baker finished in a two-way tie for seventh place individually. Sophomore Brian Anderson also cracked the top ten with a season best three round score of 217 (75-72-70), placing him in a two-man tie for tenth place.
Freshman Kyle Vasel also shot a season best three-round score with a 221 (78-69-74) to finish in a tie for 21st. Senior B.J. Brown finished two strokes behind Vasel shooting a 223 (75-73-75) for the tourney, to place in a tie for 28th. Sophomore Dustin Edwards rounded out the Redbird team, finishing with a three round score of 232 (79-71-82), to place in a tie for 54th.
Sophomore Walter Brown, competing in the tournament as an individual, finished with a score of 228 (78-76-74).
As a team the Redbirds tied for third place out of 13, improving their placement at fifth from the first day of competition, the team shot a score of 292 in round three. The Birds added to the list of season bests by scoring a three-round combined total of 874 strokes for the tourney, beating their old score by one stroke.
Taking home the tournament title was the University of Nebraska who finished with 866 (290-281-295), as well as three of its competitors in the top ten. Iowa State University followed Nebraska in second with a score of 868 (283-280-305), Illinois State and Kansas State tied for third, followed by tournament host Southwest Missouri finishing in fifth to round out the top five teams.
Jeremy Lyons of Iowa State University took home medalist honors after finishing two strokes under par with a three-round score of 211 (69-66-76).
The Redbirds resume competitive golf action when they travel to Ridge Pointe Country Club in Jonesboro, Ark. for the Indian Classic.
