Monique Witkowski of Tinley Park, Ill., has signed a national letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic careers at Illinois State as a member of the Redbird swimming and diving team.
At Tinley Park High School, Witkowski set 13 school records and was selected as team MVP for three seasons. An All-American with Consideration in the 50-yard freestyle, Witkowski placed 17th in the 50 free at the state swim meet as a senior and 24th as a junior. She also serves as an assistant coach for the Tinley Park Sharks, a club team that she swam with for 12 years.
Monique has a tall, thin build, which is an ideal sprinters body, Illinois State head coach
Steve Paska said. She keeps improving year by year and I think her fastest swimming is ahead of her. In our program, she can focus on several different aspects of swimming. Spending time with our strength and conditioning staff can bring her swimming to another level.
As a Redbird, Witkowski will swim sprint freestyle events as well as backstroke, and plans to major in either pre-veterinary science or elementary education.
She has a love of the sport and has a great attitude, Paska added. She is looking forward to the challenge of swimming at the collegiate level.
