Redbirds Use Extra Innings to Defeat SIU 1-0, Advance to Rematch with Northern Iowa

Junior Katie Shifflet hit a sacrifice fly to center field in the bottom of the tenth inning to send freshman Erin Carr home from third to score the winning run in a 1-0 victory over Southern Illinois that advances into a rematch with the No. 6 Northern Iowa Panthers that sent the Birds into the losers bracket Thurday with a 2-1 win. No. 3 seed Southern Illinois is eliminated from the Valley Tournament, while the Redbirds play the Panthers at 12:30 p.m. Friday.
