Cantrell, Legan Repeat On Valley Scholar-Athlete Team

Seniors Ryan Cantrell and Scott Legan were named to the 2002 Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete baseball squad, as determined by a vote of league sports information directors. Cantrell, a native of Bloomington, Ill., repeats as a first-team scholar athlete. The social sciences education major has a 3.28 cumulative grade point average and joins five other student-athletes who notched their second-straight first-team Valley Scholar-Athlete plaudits in 2002. Currently leading the team with 16 doubles, Cantrell has started 45 of 48 games for ISU this season. His .330 batting average ranks third on the team and he has seven home runs this season. He also ranks third in the Valley in doubles. Legan, an Oak Park, Ill. native, was one of 11 honorable mention choices. It is the second year also for Legan to be named an honorable mention choice. He currently carries a 3.32 cumulative GPA who will graduate in December of 2002. The finance major is currently batting .258 and has contributed in 26 games this year. He leads the team with two triples and a 5-5 stolen base record. In all, 26 Missouri Valley Conference baseball student-athletes received recognition for their athletic and academic achievement. Nominees must be starters or important reserves with at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution.
