Former Illinois State tennis star Yew Ming Si was named the Outstanding Senior Mathematics Major Award winner, Friday, by the mathematics department.
Si, who competed two seasons for the Redbirds from 1999-2001, will be permanently recognized on a plaque located within the math department. He was also awarded a check for $1,000.
The award is voted on by each faculty member within the department and all nominees must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
Si, who was a Verizon Academic All-American in 2001, graduated last Saturday with a bachelors degree in mathematics.
