The Illinois State softball team will travel to Springfield, Mo., for a three-game series with Southwest Missouri State at the SMS Softball Field on Friday and Saturday, completing its regular-season schedule.
Fridays game begins at 3 p.m., while Saturdays doubleheader is slated to start at 12 p.m.
The Redbirds, 28-14 overall, 19-3 in the Valley, head into the final series sitting comfortably in first place in the conference, three games ahead of Southern Illinois in the standings. SMS enters the series sitting in fifth place with a record of 22-24 overall and an 11-10 league mark.
Illinois State is coming off of a two-game weekend sweep of Nothern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa, last weekend. On Sunday, April 28, the Birds won the first game of the doubleheader 8-1 and defeated the Panthers in the second game with a 6-1 victory. SMS has also won its last two games against league foe Wichita State 4-3,
