Some 18 months after the fact, the Illinois State University volleyball program picked up win No. 20 for the 2000 season. Ohio State, ranked No. 11 in the nation at the time, has forfeited its four-game match win over Illinois State Sept. 10, 2000. The change makes the Redbird record for that season 20-9.
The Buckeyes, who out-scored the Redbirds that day 15-9, 15-3, 11-15, 15-10, have forfeited 39 matches to 24 different opponents from 1999 and 2000 at the direction of the Big Ten office. Notice was sent to Illinois State in a memorandum from the OSU Athletics Communications Office dated May 21, 2002. The memo cited no specific reasons for the forfeitures.
The change gives the Redbirds 11 20-victory seasons in the past 14 years. Head coach Sharon Dingman, in her inaugural season at Illinois State in 2000, now has six 20-victory seasons in her 11 years as a head coach. Her Illinois State coaching record changes to 36-23 and her overall mark is 225-137.
