In honor of the late Dr. Milton E. Weisbecker, who passed away on Friday, May 17, a memorial service will be conducted in Redbird Arena on Saturday, June 8 at 5 p.m.
Weisbecker, who served as director of athletics at Illinois State from 1966 to 1974, hired the first African-American Division I head basketball coach at a predominantly white university, introduced synthetic turf to football fields in Illinois and brought Illinois State University into Division I athletics.
Following the memorial service, there will be a private reception in the Kaufman Football Building.
