Stephenson Joins Indiana State Volleyball Staff

Megan Stephenson is continuing a long tradition of Illinois State volleyball players joining the coaching ranks as the 2002 graduate has joined the Indiana State coaching staff. Stephenson, a native of Jeffersonville, Ind., recently became an assistant coach on Jim Bertoli's Sycamore staff. A four-year letterwinner at Illinois State, Stephenson played for Redbird coaches Julie Morgan in 1998 and 1999 and Sharon Dingman in 2000 and 2001. She completed her Illinois State career ranked No. 7 in career blocks per game. Stephenson, who played on the 1998 Redbird team which advanced to the NCAA Tournament, had her best season statistically in 2000 when she averaged 1.14 blocks per game, ranking No. 8 in the Missouri Valley Conference. The versatile Stephenson will have much to contribute as a coach from her college playing days at Illinois State, where her teams compiled a 75-45 record. She was a left-side hitter until 2000 when injuries forced her to middle blocker two weeks into the season. An elementary education major, Stephenson was a six-time AFNI Athletics Honor Roll member at Illinois State. Former Southampton College men's coach Carmen Walker also was named to Bertoli's Indiana State coaching staff.
