Senior walk-on Brett Gillan, a graduate of Normal Community, was diagnosed with a torn medial meniscus in his left knee during a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedure on Friday morning.
Gillan suffered the injury on the final drill of Thursdays practice, when he landed wrong while converting a layup. Gillan will undergo surgery on Wednesday to repair the torn cartilage.
This is a real unfortunate injury for Brett, head coach Tom Richardson said. Even though Brett hasnt played a lot of game minutes during his career, he still plays an important role in our success. Since the day he joined this team, Brett has given 110 percent to the coaching staff and this program.
Gillan will be out of action at least two to four weeks. At this time, Gillans status for the Redbirds trip to Australia on August 4-17, is questionable.
