"Meet the Redbirds" to Feature The Redbird Football Experience

Fans can experience the thrill of catching or completing a pass, kicking an extra point, returning a punt and more on the new AstroPlay Turf during the Meet the Redbirds night Aug. 20 at Hancock Stadium. It is a free event where fans of all ages will get the opportunity to participate in game situations with Redbird players. From 5:30-6:15 p.m., the Redbird Football Experience will be open to the public. Seven different stations with interactive games will be spread throughout the field while photo opportunities will also be available at the Be a Bird station. Helmets, pads and jerseys will all be on hand for fans, who bring their own cameras, to wear for keepsake snapshots. Quarterback Challenge, Extra Point, Run to Daylight and Down & Out are just four of the football-skill games that will be set up. Quarterback Challenge tests your passing accuracy by throwing to Redbird receivers. In Extra Point fans try to boot the ball between the uprights. Run to Daylight is a clock-beater simulating a punt return and Down & Out will include squirming through Redbird defenders to leap for a pass from a quarterback. Other activities include Long Snap, snapping for accuracy with the Redbirds long snapper to the punter; Goal Line Stand, stuffing the play on fourth down; and Training Camp, an obstacle course where you duck defenders and fight off tacklers striving for the endzone and a touchdown. Short of being a Redbird football player, this is a fans opportunity to make the plays, meet the team and have fun on the new AstroTurf at Hancock Stadium. Reggie Redbird and Redbird cheerleaders will also be on hand at the event. Access to the field will be available through the east, northwest and southwest gates to Hancock Stadium. Gates open at 5:15 p.m., and if bad weather occurs, a meet and greet autograph session with the players will be held inside Horton Field House.
