The Illinois State womens soccer team lost the season-opening exhibition game, 2-0, to University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
The Panthers took the early lead with an own goal in the first half. Sommer Rouse of UWM sent another shot into the net past Redbird goalkeeper Allison Farrington at the 50:07 mark.
Despite the Redbird loss, head coach Pete Kowall found some highlights in todays competition.
We didnt play well, but we did play well in spirits. We were not familiar with their formation and at times we lost focus. It is still early, and this is the first time that we have played 11 on 11, said Kowall. We are still trying to find our starting 11 by moving players around. We still have ten days until our first game and we have time to evaluate our game.
The Redbirds will host another exhibition game at Adelaide Street Field on Friday, August 23 at 3:30 p.m. against the club team, Windy City Pride.
