Head coach Denver Johnson was 'much more pleased' with Thursday's practice after a disappointing outing by the Redbird football team Wednesday. While he admits it wasnt perfect, Johnson was happier with the mental choices of his student-athletes.
"We came out more focused and zeroed in a little better today," Johnson said. "We fought through the distractions and got to the task at hand. I hope we have an even better practice tomorrow but we got off our plateau and are back on the rise."
While the mentality of his team impressed him today, Johnson also was encouraged by senior Ray Robinson and all three quarterbacks, who continue to fight for the starting role.
"Ray Robinson is a great football player and might be the best player on this team," Johnson said. He is an impressive athlete and puts out a huge effort every time he is on the filed. He doesnt know any speed except full speed and he is a good guy. If we could take some of his blood and transfuse it into other bodies, we would have just what we needed.
"All three quarterbacks did nice things today also," Johnson continued. "Kevin Zouzounis made some nice throws and executed our screens very well while Mike Souza also made some good things happen on a couple of scrambles. Yance Vaughan also made some good mental decisions, he didnt throw particularly well, but mentally, he made the right choices."
NOTES:
Joe Bendoraitis is recovering from successful foot surgery which took place Wednesday afternoon.
