Samantha Richdale was named Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week after her first-place finish in the Redbird Golf Classic, September 9-10, held at the Illinois State Golf Course in Normal, Ill.
Richdale, a native of Kelowna B.C., Canada, shot a three-round score of 218, a team and tournament best. After the first days competition , her two-round score of 144 put her at the top as she held on to the lead in day two, shooting a 74 in the final round. Richdale improved upon her three-stroke lead from day one and won the tournament, hosted by Illinois State, by a six stroke cushion.
Her finish helped secure ISUs team victory (894) as the Birds defeated Valley foes Southern Illinois, Bradley, and Northern Iowa. This was Richdales first collegiate tournament win.
Illinois State swept the golfer of the week honors as Kyle Vasel of the mens golf team, received the mens honors.
