Kyle Vasel, a sophomore on the Illinois State mens golf team, has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Mens Golf Player of the Week for his performance at the Fairway Club Invitational Sept. 9-10.
Vasel, a native of Greenville, Ill., shot a three-round total of 212, with rounds of 71, 72 and 69, to finish in second place for the competition. Vasel was only one shot behind tournament medalist Jeremy Lyons, of Iowa State University, and led his Redbird team to a third-place tie in the 13-team event. Vasel was the top golfer out of the five Valley schools competing.
Vasel and the Birds will look to keep their early season success alive when they host the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate at the University Golf Course Sept. 15-17.
