Redbird Softball Set to Continue Fall Schedule

The Illinois State softball team will continue on its fall tournament schedule this Sunday, September 15, as the Redbirds travel to Orland Park, Ill., to compete in the Chicagoland Fall Classic hosted by Bradley University. The tournament runs Friday, September 13 through Sunday, September 15. The Redbirds will only compete on Sunday and will play three games, as they face conference rival Bradley, Big Ten opponent Purdue and IUPUI. Head coach Melinda Fischer is anxious to see her team play after a week of practice. This is an important fall tournament for us, said Fischer. In the last week we have added some new team strategies, both offensively and defensively, and I am anxious to see how the games play out. We will be facing other Division I schools, and we will be able to see where the team is at at this point. While the fall season is not the championship season for softball, Fischer stresses the importance of having a competitive fall schedule. The fall season is huge for the new players to learn the expectations of the team, said Fischer. The schedule in the spring will bring the same, if not a better caliber of competition, and the fall season is a great way for the team to gain valuable experience before it really counts.
