Illinois State hinted at great things to come, winning twelve of seventeen matches on the first day of the Mizzou 4-Way.
Todays competition featured two rounds of singles competition and one round of doubles competition, The round-robin style tournament also features Murray State, Southern Illinois University, and host University of Missouri.
In Doubles, Illinois States three competing teams were right on track, all putting away their round one opponents.
In Singles, Redbirds Liina Suurvarik, Shelby Lipson, and Laura Gravino all remain undefeated after two rounds of play. Alesia Mikalayeva, Elizabeth Bingier, and freshman Ashley Maxwell all went one and one for the day. Freshman Emilie Sechaud was unable to put away either of her two opponents, but head coach Chris Hoover liked what he saw from his team today.
We put in a good first day, said Hoover. Im very pleased with what I saw from our freshmen today, and they obviously were shown strong leadership from the older girls on the team. Im sensing a lot of desire in the girls this season, and I think were doing great.
The tournament continues Sunday morning at 9 a.m. at the Green Tennis Center. Day two of the Mizzou 4-Way will feature two rounds of doubles play, and the final round of singles play.
