Redbirds Pull Off Win Against Wisconsin-Green Bay

The Illinois State womens soccer team scored three unanswered goals in the second half of Sundays noon game, to give the Redbirds the 3-1 victory over Wisonsin-Green Bay. The Redbirds were scoreless in the first half, and were down 1-0 after a Phoenix goal by Kristen Lau at the 39:50 mark. Senior Annie Wayland recorded her first goal of the 2002 season at the 64:60 mark to tie the game at one apiece. Then, at the 70:02 mark, junior Katie Long scored her second goal of the year to put the Redbirds up, 2-1. Sophomore Michelle Brumbaugh sealed the Redbird victory with 14:15 left to play in the game, by scoring her second goal of the season, which put Illinois State up, 3-1. Head coach Pete Kowall was pleased with todays victory, but stressed the importance of putting two solid halves together. It is still early in the season, and people are now getting adjusted, said Kowall. It is a matter of playing well and in the second half we did that. This is a good win for us. Kowall credited several of his players for the making the needed adjustments and getting the job done on the field. People like Katie (Long) and Michelle (Brumbaugh) are finding their niche. Annie (Wayland) worked hard to get her first goal of the season, and she earned it today, said Kowall. The Redbirds improved their record to 4-0 and will begin conference play on Friday, September 20 at Adelaide Street Field when they take on Northern Iowa at 4 p.m.
