Freshman Kris Wildenradt led the way as the Illinois State mens golf team finished fifth in the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate at its own University Golf Course.
Wildenradt shot a 74 in the final round of the tournament to finish with a three-round score of 216 and place in a tie for 10th. Sophomore Kyle Vasel finished just one stroke behind shooting a 71 on the day to finish the tourney with a 217 and a tie in 14th place. Freshman Chris Eddy also broke the top 20 in a tie for 17th after shooting a 75 on the day, to make his three-round total a 218. Juniors Brian Anderson (75, 218) and Walter Brown (75, 224) finished the tournament in 39th and 49th, respectively.
As a team, the Redbirds shot a 295 on the day to finish with a three-round score of 873 for fifth place. Southwest Missouri State (295, 873) took first place honors for the tournament, followed by the Northern Iowa (281, 861) in second, Drake (285, 866) in third, and Saint Louis University (287, 873) in fifth.
Freshman Matt Maskel led the Redbird individual golfers finishing the tourney with a 216 three-round score after shooting a 71 in round three for a 10th place tie. Junior Denny Bull finished out the competition just one stroke behind with a 217 after a 69 shot performance in round three to finish in a tie for 14th.
Freshman Kurt Sroka broke into the top 25 with a 219 three-round score after shooting a 72 on the day for a tie in 22nd. Junior Dustin Edwards shot a 70 in round-three for a 221 three total score and 36th place. Freshman Jason Kemp rounded out the individual Redbird golfers with a 75 in round three to finish out the tourney with a three-round score of 223 for a tie in 44th.
Marc Cahalan of Northern Iowa took medalist honors for the tournament shooting a 70 on the day to finish with a three-round total of 209.
The Redbirds resume golf action Sept. 22-24 when they travel to Lawrence, Kan., to compete in the Kansas Invitational.
