Women's Tennis Coach Receives Continued Recognition

The Illinois State womens tennis coach Chris Hoover will attend the United States Professional Tennis Associations national convention next weekend where he will be recognized for his outstanding coaching achievements. In March of 2002, Hoover was named the 2001 Midwest Division Coach of the Year. Coach Hoover was chosen as the recipient of this award based on his teams accomplishments and win/loss record as well as his contributions to the USPTA during the sixteen years he has been a member. The recognition is certainly deserved. In 2001, under Hoovers guidance, the Illinois State womens tennis team earned a 21-6 record and was undefeated (9-0) in the Missouri Valley Conference. The team was ranked No. 58 nationally and No. 10 in the Midwest Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The Redbirds captured 7 of 10 titles at the Missouri Valley Conference Individuals Tournament. In addition, Hoover was named the Coach of the Year in the Missouri Valley Conference for the second consecutive year in a row. Hoover will attend a breakfast banquet at Ballys hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Friday, September 27, where he will be recognized for his coaching accomplishments along with the other regional award winners. During the banquet, the United States Professional Tennis Association will also announce the recipient of the National Coach of the Year award. The recipient of this award will be chosen from among the regional award winners, but just attending the convention is excitement enough for Hoover. It will be an honor for me simply to be in the company of the coaches who will be present at this convention, said Hoover. This is the first time I will attend the USPTAs national conference in the sixteen years that I have been a member. There will be stiff competition for the National Coach of the Year award, but Im ecstatic just to be in attendance.
