Boomer Grigsby made the game-saving tackle against Murray State in Illinois States home thriller win at Hancock Stadium Saturday night and with his stellar performance he has been named Gateway Football Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
The Canton, Ill., natives tackle at the one-yard line against MSUs Garner Byars foiled the Racers two-point conversion attempt with 26 seconds remaining in the game. The stop, which was one of 17 tackles for Grigsby on the night, enabled the Birds to walk away with the one-point win, 24-23.
Grigsby finished the game with 10 solo tackles, including four tackles for loss (-13) and one sack for a two-yard loss. His 17 tackles against Murray State marked the best single-game performance by the sophomore linebacker. Grigsby, who already holds the Illinois State freshman season record with 93 stops, currently has 36 for the year.
