Allison Farrington, goalkeeper for the Illinois State womens soccer team, has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season for her performance over the weekend. She previously received this honor for the week of September 9.
Farrington, a native of Libertyville, Ill., has stepped up to fill the void of Lynley Hilligoss, who is out with an injury. Last week, Farrington recorded two of her three shut-outs on the season in home games against Northern Iowa on September 20 and Xavier on September 22.
The senior goalkeeper anchored the Redbird defense which allowed only seven UNI shots and recorded three saves. The Redbirds allowed 15 Xavier shots and Farrington recorded nine saves.
Farringtons efforts helped Illinois State (6-0, 1-0) extend its undefeated record, which is the longest winning streak at the start of a season in the programs six year history. The Redbirds return to action at Adelaide Street Field on Thursday, September 26, at 4 p.m. against Loyola-Chicago.
