Redbird Softball Wins Two, Loses One in Hawkeye Classic

The Illinois State softball team dropped its first game of the fall schedule to tournament host Iowa, at the Hawkeye Classic on Sunday, September 22. In the first game of the day, the Redbirds played Utah State and recorded the 4-2 victory. Senior Corey Harris started on the mound, and fellow senior Audra Rast finished the game and recorded the win. Freshman Sheila Emms pitched the second game for the Redbirds against Northern Illinois. The Redbirds beat the Huskies 1-0. The final game of the day came with the Illinois State loss to Iowa. The game went into extra innings with the Redbirds up 1-0 at the top of the eighth inning. Iowa had a runner on second base with one out when the Iowa batter hit a home run, giving the Hawkeyes the 2-1 victory. The Redbirds will return to action next weekend, September 28-29, when they compete in the Central Illinois Fall Festival at East Side Center in East Peoria.
