Jim Brownlee and the Illinois State baseball program are anxiously awaiting the start of the 2003 spring season, but the fall season is packed with a wide variety of events that will keep fans of Redbird baseball more than content.
On Saturday, October 5, all former Redbird baseball players are invited to participate in the annual Alumni game between past and current players at Redbird Field. Registration for the game will start at 8:30 a.m. at the baseball field. Batting practice will begin at 9 a.m. and the game will start at 10. Following the game, all alumni will be invited to a picnic at Redbird Field. The game will be open to the public.
Interested Illinois State baseball alumnus in either playing or participating in the Alumni Game can contact Jim Brownlee at (309) 438-5151 before Tuesday, October 1, to RSVP.
Brownlee and his staff will also be forming a winter indoor hitting league every Sunday from October 20 through November 24. The league is comprised of two-player teams, who will compete against other teams within their division. Individuals who register will be assigned to a team and divisions will be formed according to the grade level of the players.
Each team member will receive a Winter Hitting League T-shirt and Redbird players and coaches will be available during the league for instruction. The registration deadline is Monday, October 14, and cost is $120 per individual or $240 per team. Questions regarding this league can be directed to Seth Kenny, ISU assistant baseball coach, at (309) 438-3338 or sakenny@ilstu.edu and entry forms can also be printed on the Redbird baseball website found at www.redbirds.org.
The Illinois State baseball team will also conclude its fall practice season with a three-game World Series from Tuesday, October 8, through Thursday, October 10. The Birds will evenly divide their team into a red team and a white team and each team will be managed by members of the local media. One game will be played each day starting at 3:30 p.m. and all games are open to the public.
