The Illinois State mens golf team teed off at the Kansas Invitational, led by sophomore Kyle Vasel and junior Brian Anderson, who are currently front-runners for the team in a tie for 30th, after the first day of golf action.
Vasel shot a 76 in round one and a 73 in round two for a day one score of 149, while Anderson scored a 75 in the first round and a 74 in the second to tie Vasel with a 149 in 30th place.
The par-72 Alvamar Golf Course proved to be a challenge for the rest of the Redbirds. Freshman Chris Eddy (79-74=153) currently sits in a tie for 52nd, while junior Denny Bull (80-77=157) holds a tie at 69th, and freshman Kristopher Wildenradt (78-80=158) rounds out the five-man team in a tie for 73rd.
In the team standings the 'Birds currently sit in a tie for 11th-place after shooting a 308 in round one. ISU improved its first round total by 10 strokes with a 298 over the second round for a day one total of 606.
Ryan Baca, from Baylor, currently holds first-place in the individual standings after shooting a pair of 68s for a day one total of 136.
Baylor (285-279=564) sits in first-place for overall team standings, followed by Wichita State (290-289=579) in second, and host Kansas (293-287=580) rounding out the top three teams for the day.
The third and final round will commence on Tuesday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
