Junior Brian Anderson (75-74-69=218) led the Illinois State mens golf team by shooting a 69 in the third round of play at the Kansas Invitational to improve upon his day one placement of 30th and finish the tourney in a tie for 9th. Andersons ninth-place finish was his first top ten performance of the year.
Sophomore Kyle Vasel (76-73-77=226), who was tied with Anderson for 30th after the first two rounds of play, shot a 77 on the day to finish in a tie for 41st. Freshman Chris Eddy (79-74-75=228) finished two strokes behind Vasel to tie for 46th. Junior Denny Bull (80-77-78=235) placed in a tie for 71st, while freshman Kris Wildenradt (78-80-79=237) rounded out the Redbird squad in a tie for 73rd.
In overall team standings the Birds finished in a tie for 10th place, improving their day one finish by one spot. The Birds shot a three round total of 905 (308-298-299) to tie with Southwest Missouri State and Oral Roberts.
Ryan Baca (68-68-73=209), hailing from Baylor, took home medalist honors for the tournament, finishing three strokes ahead of Mike Lewis of Northern Iowa and Chris Marshall of Kansas, who each took second-place.
Baylor University (285-279-299=863) won the overall team title, followed by Kansas (293-287-292=872) in second and Wichita State (290-289-297=876) in third.
The Birds resume mens golf action October 10-12, when they travel to Elizabeth Town, Ky., for the Ohio Valley Collegiate.
